Things to do on the week of your wedding

The wedding day countdown is on and it’s time to get prepared, together. The wedding day logistics have been sorted and though you know there may be some last-minute blips, you also know you can work through those together. So how to spend the last week before you say ‘I do’? Well, recently I shared my top practical things to do on the week of your wedding on my TiktTok (and Instagram) and the posts went wild. In fact, on Tiktok, my post was seen 182 thousand times, was shared 2,200 times, and saved 8905 times to date! I must have said something that was worthwhile so I decided to blog it for all those who prefer to read an article - I know I do! A lot of these practical tips are things that are often overlooked and they haven’t been seen anywhere else in a wedding mag. Enjoy and bookmark this article to come back to later.

Things to do the week of your wedding #1: Break in your shoes

Get the gel pads, the blister pads, rub ‘deep heat’ on your feet, and get a’stomping. The last thing you want is for your wedding day to be the first day you wore your brand-new shoes. This goes for everyone. Get them on and wear them around the house, to break them in. If they’re feeling tight, pop on some thick socks as you walk around in them, this will help stretch them out a little. Cushioned inserts, I think, can make the biggest difference to your comfort levels so defintely add them to the inside of your shoes.

It’s also worth packing some trainers or flat shoes for your wedding day just in case.

How cute are these matching trainers?!

Things to do the week of your wedding #2: Remove stickers

Whilst we’re on the topic of shoes, sticky fingernails and half-scraped stickers on the soles of your shoes are not a vibe for your wedding day. Remove them a few days beforehand when you have more time. Heat the stickers with a hairdryer and they should come off with ease and leave a less sticky residue.

Things to do the week of your wedding #3: Cut off price tags

I think pretty much every wedding day I have been to (pretty much every weekend of the year!) I have witnessed people running around in the half hour before they are meant to leave for the wedding ceremony, trying to find a pair of scissors to cut off the labels and price tags out of their new clothes. Even off a very important white dress! Save the stress on the day and do it the day before. Tell your friends and family who are getting ready with you to do the same.

Things to do the week of your wedding #4: Have a run-through

Gather your wedding party (bridesmaids/groomsmen/immediate family) and have a run through of the day. Make it fun, do it over snacks or dinner. Assign duties to the wedding party. Yes, it’s completely okay to give the a job! That’s why we have bridesmaids and groomsmen - they’re there to help out and when they’ve done the important bits are done, they can help bring the party too.

Here are some jobs you can give them which will help your day run a lot smoother:

  • Be in charge of the group photos. Give them the list so they’re ready with knowing who they need when the time comes for it.

  • Emotional support!

  • Be able to fix the hair/outfit. It’s a good idea to have one of the bridesmaids know how to take the veil in/out.

  • Have the rings

  • Know how to tie the tie, and attach the buttonholes.

  • Grab you canapes/water so you don’t miss out

  • Light the candles

  • Pass the Mic

  • Hand out the gifts

Things to do the week of your wedding #5: Hydrate

Drink water. There is such a thing as a ‘wedding hangover’ and it’s not always due to the alcohol! It can be due to dehydration. There’s not a lot of opportunity to drink water during the day. If you can keep hydrated the week before, it’s got to help. It’ll definitely help your skin glow if nothing else and keep your energy levels up.

Things to do the week of your wedding #6: Write a note

Take some time out to write each other a love letter that you can both open on the morning of your wedding day and read. Think of your reasons why, your hopes and promises for each other. This heartfelt note will be the most treasured sentimental and romantic keepsake from the day alongside your wedding day photos! And speaking of photos, if you can, read these notes when your photographer/videographer arrives in the morning. It’s a super touching moment that is well worth documenting.

Things to do the week of your wedding #7: Go on a date

Plan and enjoy your last date night as an engaged couple. Savour the moment and make some memories! The next time you’ll do it, you’ll be an old married couple.

Things to do the week of your wedding #8: Sleep

Aim to get a full 6-8hours sleep every day of the week of your wedding. You’ll last a lot longer on the day and you’ll be able to show the dancefloor a good time!

And there you have it, my top 8 practical things to do on the week of your wedding which you won’t find anywhere else.
