A Summer Wedding at The Barnsdale Barns

Louisa and Will had their dream day in June at Normanton Church and The Barnsdale Barns in Rutland. They were, without a doubt, the sweetest couple I’ve had the joy of photographing. So in love and so utterly adorable, their wedding day was the perfect reflection of their personalities—full of love, laughter, and sunny vibes.

Getting married at Normanton Church

The celebration began at Normanton Church, at Rutland Water - a location close to their hearts for its peaceful beauty. They love the iconic building so much that even the wedding stationery of their day included hand-drawn Normanton Church illustrations. This chapel at Rutland Water was a breathtaking setting for their vows, with stunning views that added to the magic of the moment. As they left the church, Louisa and Will, scrawled 'JUST MARRIED' onto the rear window of their VW car,  hopped in - complete with clinking tin cans, and made their way to The Barnsdale Barns to continue their unforgettable summer wedding celebration.

Time to celebrate at The Barnsdale Barns

Set amidst the natural beauty of Rutland, The Barnsdale Barns was the perfect venue for their English country garden theme. Vibrant florals, rustic charm, and plenty of sunshine made the day feel like a scene from a dream. Guests enjoyed mingling in the courtyard, sharing heartfelt laughter, and soaking in the warmth of a perfect summer day. After, they headed into the atmospheric Barns where speeches and food were had. As it was a glorious sunset, Louisa & Will agreed to head back to Normanton Church for some ‘golden hour’ photos. They were so glad they did as they love the venue so much. It was spectacular in the sun! We headed back to The Barnsdale (it’s not far between the two!) where champagne was poured and the live saxophonist persuaded guests to the dancefloor! When the dancefloor kicked off, the large glass doors of The Barnsdale Barns remained open providing a scenic countryside backdrop to the party-filled dancefloor - it was a gorgeous sight to photograph.

For couples seeking an idyllic countryside venue, The Barnsdale Barns is a stunning choice for a summer wedding. Louisa and Will’s day was truly unforgettable—a celebration of love, family, and everything that makes this venue so special. This was my first visit to capture a wedding since the refurbishment. You can see other weddings I photographed at The Barnsdale to see how it's changed over here: Barnsdale Barn Weddings. I think you'll agree, it's quite something!

When it came to choosing a photographer, Louisa and Will said they loved my documentary-style approach, which captures the true joy and love of weddings. From quiet, intimate moments to the big, celebratory ones, their trust allowed me to create memories that they can cherish forever. I also knew how special Normanton Church was to them and made sure we could get our golden hour photos back there. This really was a memorable part of the day for them and they were so glad that I had thought of this to do with them.
