A Relaxed Barn Wedding in Leicestershire

Today on the blog I’m bringing you the story of Sophie & Harry’s very cool, very relaxed barn wedding in Leicestershire. If you’re all about pretty, intimate boho vibes, awesome playlists and ice cream for dessert…you’re going to be all over this one! It’s an epic example of picking and choosing traditions and formalities that suit you and saying ‘no thanks’ to the ones that don’t.

The Old Cow Shed: barn wedding venue, Leicestershire

Sophie and Harry’s wedding venue was The Old Cow Shed, a barn wedding venue in Leicestershire, which they fell in love with for its intimate, cosy vibe. It has an indoor-outdoor feel and lots of quirky, exposed brick, and it’s the ideal place for a relaxed barn wedding in Leicestershire…plus, it’s local for me which automatically earns a place brownie points! The feel of the day was chilled-out boho, mixed with the air of minimalism they love in their own home. They wanted the flowers to take centre stage, and they were created by a friend of theirs, Sue. After meeting when Sophie attended a flower workshop, Sue agreed to come out of retirement for one last floral hurrah! They used seasonal, British-grown blooms and gave Sue creative control to create something wild and bohemian that complimented the space perfectly. The combination of whites and pinks interspersed with dried elements really brought the cosy spaces at The Old Cow Shed to life.

Sophie and Harry’s day was created to reflect them as a couple and the things they love the most - travel and exploring new places, great food, good music, their families…and each other! Elements of their day were inspired by these things, from their band which was inspired by a holiday to Cuba - they told me it reminded them of dancing until 4 am in the clubs there. Their evening music was an awesome RnB playlist, and if you follow me on Instagram you’ll know just how into THAT I was. The wedding breakfast was non-traditional and was served as a family-sharing platter style, reminding them of sitting down to dinner with their big families and chatting away over foodie feasts. They really wanted the whole day to be a fun, relaxed time for everyone and to be a true celebration of their 11 years together, and if you ask me they really pulled it off.

The reason Sophie and Harry’s relaxed barn wedding was such a chilled, authentic day was that they really prioritised and invested in the things that were important to them. They brought the ‘luxe’ to the parts of the day that deserved it, which is one of my top tips for making your day feel extra fabulous without breaking the bank. When you’ve gone to this much effort with the details, you’ll want to make sure it all gets captured - every wedding I shoot is different and, whilst many of the shot types are similar, the gallery of images delivered to each couple is always totally unique. I pride myself on going above and beyond to catch every important moment, and I offer both photography and videography - have a nosey here!
