Pumping House Wedding, Nottingham - Luck Of The Irish

Say what you will about Instagram, but if it wasn’t for the social media platform everyone loves to hate I never would have had the utter JOY of Joe and Glenn entering my life (and my lens!). Joe and I originally bonded over a DM chat about Eurovision, and music really was one of the threads that bound us when we found out that Glenn and I also shared a love of garage, dance and RnB. Despite some disagreements over the best kind of biscuit, they decided my relaxed documentary photography was a great fit for their Pumping House wedding, Nottingham and the rest is history. Like all the best history, their wedding is being immortalised in blog form - hopefully reading it will be great craic! Here’s hoping Joe forgives me if I used that incorrectly…

Back at the Pumping House, Nottingham

I was excited to shoot a Pumping House wedding in Nottingham as it’s one of the area’s standout venues, and I chose it for a cool, geometric-styled shoot some time ago. Its red brick, grade 2 listed exterior charm is perfectly matched by its quirky, architecturally sensitive interior style choices. Joe and Glenn fell in love with the Pumping House too as they wanted the whole day to take place in one venue, and loved the style as well as its forest surroundings. On the day they let the venue speak for itself and went for simple, relaxed decor with clean, sharp lines in monochrome tones. Gemma from Save The Date Event Stylist really came through with effortlessly cool grey, black and white decor and table settings (a MOMENT for those peacock chairs please…), and Chloe Ainsley’s playful yet modern signature look was perfect for the guys’ stationery. The table names were inspired by some of the 13 countries Joe and Glenn have visited together over the past 5 years!

On the day itself, the luck of the Irish was really with us, as it was an unexpectedly warm and sunny day. After their ceremony (there were tears!) Joe and Glenn had organised a playlist of all their favourite songs to play right through to the first dance, which included Irish artists, songs that are special to certain family members and even one or two Eurovision tunes! They wanted the day to really be their own, so certain family and friends had different roles throughout the day and there were little touches of Ireland throughout. Signage was written in the Irish language and there were shamrocks in their buttonholes; meaningful little touches that may go unnoticed by most, but mean the world.

Pumping House wedding PARTY!

In the evening Joe sat me with their guests, as we both agreed we felt like firm friends by this point! I was seated on what I can only describe as the naughty table, and I had the MOST fun in between capturing all the joyful and lovely wedding day chaos around me. Everything for Joe and Glenn was very relaxed, and the most important thing was that everyone was in the same room and the families got to meet properly after such a long time. After their first dance (‘In Case You Didn’t Know by Brett Young and Una Healy, mixing their love of country music with Irish influence) it was time for a party in the Pumping House! The evening rolled in and brought with it a gin room, sparklers and a very cool live band, The Burgundys

The coolest couple and wedding at The Pumping House, Nottingham

I always feel a little sad when I have to part ways with couples after their wedding day, but on this occasion, it was more sweet than bitter because I know we’re all genuinely friends for life now. Joe and Glenn’s advice for you when planning your wedding is to not sweat the small stuff, particularly the small details that won’t matter at all once you’re basking in the afterglow of the wedding. Their Pumping House wedding in Nottingham was cool, relaxed and fun (just like them!) and if you want a preview into their planning before the day you can check out Joe’s feature on the Save The Date mag website! The boys mentioned that they’d enjoyed diving into my blog before their wedding, as it was so jam-packed with advice and inspiration - their words, not mine but if you feel like heading over there to see for yourself…you know where to go!
