Leicester Wedding Photography: A (Lawn) Game of Love

Donnington Park Farmhouse Wedding Leicester

The story of Joe and Shannon’s Leicester wedding photography starts with a proposal on an uninhabited island off the coast of Croatia, where these two childhood sweethearts got engaged against the backdrop of the Game of Thrones filming location! You can read all about that over here: Getting Engaged: Game of Thrones style. I was lucky enough to meet them some time later at a wedding fayre, where we immediately hit it off and connected over our love of natural, fun photos with great energy. Personally, I think they were taken in by my frankly hilarious content on Instagram

The running theme throughout this wedding was an absolutely top notch group of friends and family, and it really goes to show the importance of choosing your tribe well - Joe and Shannon definitely did!

After two postponements due to you-know-what-by-now, Shannon and Joe had the most beautiful August day for their wedding. The sun was as joyful as they were and shone perfectly all day; third time really was the charm. In the morning they got ready at home, before heading to the church in a white VW Beetle decorated with pink ribbons and flowers from Wedding Cars of Derby. Hair and makeup was a team effort by the family, and Shannon donned her (first!) dress with the most gorgeous delicate detailing. When I spoke to them about their Leicester wedding photography before the big day, they both told me they were so excited about the first time they saw each other as Shannon walked down the aisle. Their church ceremony didn’t disappoint, and then it was on to Donington Park Farmhouse for a right old knees up!

Shannon and Joe told me it was really important to them that their friends and family had a great time and could let their hair down, and they really went to town to make sure it happened! Arriving at the reception, guests were welcomed with mini lawn games including mini-golf and giant connect four. It was the perfect summer day for everyone to gather outside and enjoy the games. Before the big day, Shannon contacted me to let me know she had a surprise for Joe - she couldn’t decide between two dresses, so had decided to change into a second look for the evening! It was an incredible sparkly number which was gorgeous for a glowy summer evening, and I captured a touching first look for the couple. They added some extra hours onto their Leicester wedding photography in the evening so we could get creative nighttime photos in the courtyard, under the romantic festoon lighting.

The absolute best part of the whole day for me was how awesome the groomsmen, bridesmaids and Shannon’s dad were! They really came together to make sure Shannon and Joe had the most perfect day, running it with military levels of precision and carnival levels of fun. Together they ushered everyone around to make sure they were in the right place at the right time, which meant all the photo opportunities ran to time. This included the ever-popular confetti shot, which I list among my top must-have images to get on your wedding day! Whilst I was busy getting my snap on with my Leicester wedding photography, some of the couple’s tribe helped me out immensely by moving my car, organising the confetti line, fluffing the dress and helping Shannon with her big dress reveal in the evening!

Shannon and Joe really wanted it to be a day filled with fun, and it was jam-packed with entertainment and thoughtful touches for the guests. I can’t tell you what an effervescent, joyful bunch of people this was and it was a true pleasure to capture!
