Getting Engaged: Game of Thrones style

Getting engaged is a big step. And one of the things I really love about engagement shoots or pre-wedding shoots is finding out how the two of you got engaged. Meet Joe and Shannon who got engaged in the Spring of last year and are set to wed this year! We got together at Rutland Water to get beautiful engagement photos to mark the occasion as well as get to know each other a little more. It didn’t take me long to get nosey and I am glad I asked….he knows something, that Joe, unlike that Jon Snow (Game of Thrones fans....laugh here)

How the three of us met

I first met Joe and Shannon at a wedding fayre at Beaumanor Hall in Leicestershire. We hit it off immediately! They wanted natural, fun and photos with colour and I loved how easy to talk to they were, how they knew what they wanted and valued how important it was to capture their friends and family having a good time. I was over the moon when they decided to book the very next day and we were Instagram buddies from there on in.

Pre-shoot at Rutland Water

We soon met up again for a pre-shoot at Rutland Water. We decided to make the most of the winter afternoon sunlight and the light did not disappoint. I honestly love my job because it’s moments like these when it just doesn’t feel I work at all. I get to spend my time running around with awesome couples, telling stupid jokes and asking them to do silly things. On this particular shoot, I had the couple climbing rocks, bumping hips and spinning around until they couldn’t laugh anymore! All part of my cunning plan to keep them warm because I'm nice like that!

Getting engaged

At a pre-shoot, I like to find out more about your wedding day and you! I love a love story so enjoy finding out how the two of you met and how the proposal went down. These two did NOT disappoint! So enough of me waffling, I’m gonna hand it over to Joe & Shannon…..

How did you meet?

We met at the age of 17, at Sixth Form. We were both doing a Maths A level and in the same class. I suppose the cheesy details are that I (Joe) may have ‘slightly' exaggerated how much help I needed as an excuse to get chatting to Shannon. We hit it off really well and I asked her out and she said yes, though she did make me wait until after exams had finished before the first date!

Where was your first date?

We used to love going out to gigs with friends and coincidently one of both of our favourite artists at that time, ‘Example’, was performing in Leicester - it seemed like the ideal first date. I can still remember Shannon singing along to every word of every song!

Tell me all about your proposal!

Joe knows that I love surprises and booked a trip to Croatia as a birthday present as we are both big fans of Game of Thrones and Dubrovnik was the filming location for Kings Landing. Midway through the holiday we visited the small uninhabited island of Lokrum and trekked up to the highest point for an amazing view of Dubrovnik across the sea. At this point, I was wondering if Joe wasn’t feeling too well as he is normally jumping around snapping photos at any opportunity but was being very quiet. We found a lovely spot to stop, have a drink and take in the view when Joe turned to me got down on one knee and proposed - it was perfect.

However… shortly after the proposal, we learned that there is actually an ancient curse on Island! Back in the 12th Century when the Benedictine Monks were evicted from the island they proclaimed “Whosoever claims Lokrum for his own personal pleasure shall be damned!” Hopefully, this doesn’t apply to us! At least we got to sit on the Iron Throne!

Awww, you guys!! HODOR (Hold the door)! This is just #SWOON!

Joe, bravo, that must have taken some planning. As I said earlier, he knows something, unlike Jon Snow. And as for the curse, well had I known earlier I would have suggested a dip in Rutland Water for a cleanse. Next time maybe…?

My Rutland & Leicestershire pre-shoots can be added onto your package and pricing can be found here: Pre-wedding shoot add on. You get all the photos; we get to know each other and we all leave feeling ever so romantic. It’s a great date!
