Autumn Wedding at The William Cecil, Stamford

Autumnal weddings are some of my absolute favourites, and this wedding at The William Cecil, Stamford was no different. Sarah and Matthew’s celebration took place on the most perfect October day, and I loved being back at this local venue shooting a wedding with so much personality!

Getting ready for a wedding at The William Cecil, Stamford

Sarah and Matthew had their legal ceremony some months prior to us getting together, during the Covid restrictions. They told me they were looking forward to renewing their vows and finally celebrating with their family and friends and hoped it would be a day full of love and much-needed happiness. When I asked them why they had chosen to have their wedding at The William Cecil, Stamford, they told me they’d had lots of family parties there over the years and it was also where Matt had proposed! Having known each other since they were 15, they wanted a relaxed and happy vibe for their day.

The whole day was very laid back and non-traditional, with Sarah and Matt pushing their ceremony back to late afternoon so everyone could be invited to both the day and night do! Sarah got ready with her bridesmaids in the morning, having her hair and makeup done by Rebecca Chantrell before slipping into her fabulous beaded Anna Couture dress. Through the outfits of the bridesmaids and page boys (including Sarah and Matt’s little one!), there was a colour scheme of deep navy, blousy pink and soft cream. This carried through to the flowers, which Sarah did herself, along with an elegant faux floral archway at the ceremony.

Autumn light photos at The William Cecil wedding

Because of the late afternoon timing of the ceremony, after their wedding at the William Cecil, Stamford I was able to head out into the village with Sarah and Matt, making the most of the most beautiful autumnal afternoon light. The couple gave me time and trust, allowing me to get creative and take some gorgeous snaps of them both - even if I did have to dart into the middle of the road for some of them! We then headed back for an informal evening reception, hosted by the welcoming and helpful staff at the venue.

Much of the evening was very relaxed, with speeches taking place in a laid-back, unconventional way and the whole wedding breakfast being served buffet-style - this allowed guests to move around, chill out and just enjoy their evening, which was what Sarah and Matt really wanted! There was an epic doughnut tower and a moving first dance to Harvest Moon by Neil Young, and the whole day was just one big autumnal delight.
