Mythe Barn Winter Wedding

Whilst many of us are on the countdown for Christmas, Lois and Gareth were on the countdown to their stunning winter wedding at Mythe Barn in Leicestershire.

I’ve just got in from Lois & Gareth’s Mythe Barn winter wedding. It’s pouring down outside, it’s around 3 degrees and it’s close to midnight but I just have to get today down on paper. It was a beautiful winter wedding at Mythe Barn and it was my first visit there. It’s a local wedding venue to me in Leicestershire. I can see why it’s a popular venue with couples. Stunning backdrops, a pretty courtyard and fab staff on hand who look after you. Mythe Barn is also the perfect setting for a winter wedding because the inside is just a pretty as the outside! There is plenty of room by the Mythe Barn bar for wedding guests to keep warm during the winter wedding season.

This Mythe Barn Winter wedding very nearly didn’t happen….

…not because of Covid, not because Lois was recovering from surgery that took place just two weeks ago but because Gareth forgot his trousers! YES! You can have a look through the pics to find the moment when he realised. With only half an hour before Gareth was due to meet the registrars, he jumped back in his car to get home and collect them. It was either be late or wear shorts. If it was the latter, I’m pretty sure Gareth would be wearing the wedding cake. Mythe Barn has huge glass windows to its main barn so when Gareth returned, he could not risk being seen and headed to the wedding breakfast room to get ready. It was a race against time to get dressed before his meeting with the registrars. Lois, luckily, had no idea and was stalled along the way to the aisle. It was a mighty fine thing Lois was an incredibly chilled bride!

The winter wedding ceremony at Mythe Barn, Leicestershire

The winter wedding ceremony took place in the Oak barn of Mythe barn. It was styled beautifully by the Rustic Wedding Company. Wine reds and purples made the barn feel luxurious and warm. It was a beautiful colour palette for a Mythe Barn winter wedding. The light poured in through the glass windows of the barn and there were twinkly golden lights everywhere in some shape or form. Lois and Gareth smiled and giggled throughout the ceremony - it really did bring a smile to everyone’s faces. There were no nerves, it was incredibly relaxed and a general feel-good atmosphere in the air.

The Mythe Barn winter wedding reception

Winter weddings can be cold, that goes without saying. But, winter weddings have the most beautiful golden light. The surroundings around Mythe Barn are idyllic and you can’t go wrong in choosing a backdrop for your wedding photos. Making use of the golden light before it set and the countryside (while it was dry!) we braved the chill and had the group photos outside. I don’t think I have the words to express just how dreamy it all looked. Take a peek for yourselves below!

Drinks and canapes were served in the main entrance of Mythe Barn, near the bar so wedding guests were happy. When it came to the wedding breakfast, the guests had no idea the treat in store for them. In between courses, singing watiers made their appearance! In fact, they had been serving during the drinks reception and the guests had no idea…so it was a fantastic surprise when the same waiters broke into song during the wedding breakfast. It is a fantastic idea to keep guests entertained - especially at a winter wedding where you often don’t have the option to have outdoor entertainment during the drinks reception hour.

The dance floor at Mythe Barn

With a Mythe Barn winter wedding, you may want to forgo the confetti - it can be quite chilly to get the guests all out, lined up and ready to throw and let’s not forget, confetti can just blow away in the winter wind. So, with that in mind, Lois & Gareth opted for confetti cannons on the dancefloor. Picture perfect!

The couple and their advice for a winter wedding at Mythe Barn

For Lois and Gareth, the day was about, and I quote Lois here, “Just being married to my best friend.” How awesome is that?! They chose Mythe Barn for their winter wedding because they were well aware that the weather may be unfavourable so choosing a place with everything being indoors and connecting to different rooms helped. They opted for rustic styling with pinks, navy, wines and purples to complement the aesthetic of a winter wedding at Mythe Barn, trusting the styling to the professionals. This saved them the stress of styling everything themselves the night before and the morning of the wedding day, not only that…a good stylist knows what they’re doing and The Rustic Wedding company definitely does! When it comes to wedding planning tips, Lois and Gareth said it is valuable to keep a very good detailed spreadsheet. “Have everything on it - including balances and budgets so that you can stay within them.” The pair had some mighty fine suppliers for their day (with many of us being in the national wedding industry awards, so we must be doing something right!). When I asked why they chose me they said: “Your personality is so infectious! Plus I love your photos and how you made us feel so at ease on the preshoot, we’re not camera people but you made it effortless!”
