Ian and Michelle got married in summer at the picturesque Normanton Church, an iconic building at Rutland water and their reception bash at Braunston Village Hall, which is a village hall in Rutland near Oakham. It was a gorgeous day and super chilled.
The excitement before the wedding
Ian and Michelle got ready separately with their friends and family around them. I met Michelle upon her arrival at Normanton Church at Rutland Water. She arrived before Ian in a lush vintage car provided by ‘Rutland Wedding Cars’ and was escorted to the waiting room at the far end of the church where she waited and watched the guests arrive. The wedding party then walked the short distance to the ceremony. Guests really took in the views of Rutland Water on this glorious day whilst walking up and waiting to go inside.
Getting hitched at Rutland Water
The wedding ceremony was a legal wedding ceremony at the stunning church at Rutland Water. The iconic and unique Normanton Church sits on the water and truly is the pride of Rutland. It is a magnificent, historic building with stunning views across the reservoir. It's no wonder this was the first and only choice for Michelle and Ian to get married at. It's also in their own home county and local to their town. During the wedding ceremony, guests entered while a guitarist played, setting the ambience. It was a relaxed and beautiful service with smiles, laughs and tears of joy all around.
The outdoor party
The reception was at Braunston Village Hall. The bride and groom chose the venue not only because it was local but because they could totally personalise it. There were lots of rustic and floral touches and much of the decor was hand made. The couple had decorated the place together with friends and family the day before and it was kept natural, relaxed and booze-filled. There were hay bales to sit upon, a self-service bar outside, Tequila and Sambuca shots in tiny labelled jam jars, lawn games for the kids and a whopping amount of sun. It was perfect!
They had gin and tonics all round in the afternoon, and beer on tap from the bar set up inside for the evening. They decorated the venue with flowers and bunting totally in keeping with the super-chilled outdoor summer wedding vibe. The hall itself was decorated with tealights, fairy lights and was dressed by the Rutland Marquee Company. It was wonderfully colourful and totally transformed the village hall.
For their ‘wedding breakfast’ Michelle and Ian had a paella tent, which was a great way of serving food. It was super tasty and just matched the vibe of the wedding perfectly. Summery and relaxed. In the evening a hog roast was served, again in keeping with the laid-back vibe.
The speeches
The most memorable part of the day had to be the speeches, everyone was doubled over in laughter. There certainly were some hilariously rude stuff said which ALWAYS goes down well! Again, this was an informal setup, with friends and family simply gathered round to hear and raise a glass. A glass was also raised to loved ones who were definitely there in spirit that day. You could really feel the love, warmth and celebration with this lot - I felt honoured to be part of it.
Michelle and Ian organised a casual and elegant wedding, without formalities. The first dance was a romantic dance – with lots of cuddling and singing. This was followed by lots of boogying from the guests. They finished off the evening with pretty much everyone lying around well fed and drunk with happiness (and Gin!) – I think you’d agree with me that this is also known as a total success!
The couple
The couple met way back when they were young - childhood sweethearts as it were and have been together since 2004! That's 14 years!! Their first date was watching 'The Incredibles’, coincidentally - within weeks of their wedding the sequel was to be released! Knowing this, I thought it only natural to try and add a hint of superhero to the wedding. I brought along a pair of superhero masks and the couple got into the famous ‘Incredibles’ superhero pose. I am so glad the couple were up for it - that's what I like! A couple who are up for some fun and don't take themselves too seriously. I know they really appreciated this personal touch from me too.
